Ralph Gordon Connor

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Eileen Dorothy (nee Woodhouse) for 69 wonderful years. Father of Robin Connor (the late Janlea), and Patricia Burgon (Brian). Predeceased by his cherished granddaughter Leanne. He served as a RCAF Pilot in WWII. Ralph was a lifelong resident of Hamilton and for 45 years he was President of Ralph G. Connor Insurance Ltd. He was Past President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton and in 1952 earned the designation Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada. A lifelong member of the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1970-72 and Chairman of the New Building Committee in 1973-76. In 2009 the Y.M.C.A. honoured him by making him an Officer of the Y.M.C.A. Fellowship of Honour. He served as a member and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Peter’s Hospital. For the 1971 and 1975 Provincial Elections he was the Returning Officer for the Hamilton Mountain Riding and subsequently became Chairman of the Province of Ontario Private Vocational School Review Board. An active member of Pioneer Memorial United and St. John United Churches, he served as a Sunday School Teacher and member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Ralph was a member of Acacia Lodge #61 AF&AM for more than 70 years and Past Master since 1958. He was also an avid golfer and curler. Ralph was a servant to his country, to his community and to his family. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 12 noon until the time of the Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford Y.M.C.A or St. Peter’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
