Energetic and strong throughout her life, she was tenacious to the end, as she fought a long battle with vascular dementia, and recently a fierce fight with skin cancer.
Mom was born into a large family on May 6, 1926, and was the middle child of Laura and William Davies's nine children. She was raised with strong family ties during lean times that greatly shaped her life and values. Mom spent her childhood in the North end of Hamilton, until she met and married our dad, Bob Stewart and moved to West Hamilton. There she and Dad raised five children and worked tirelessly to care for their family and hosted many joyous occasions with family and friends. Our Mom was known for her fabulous baking and talented knitting, as well as her roller-skating finesse and skillful euchre play. She spent countless hours with her active brood "at the cottage" both at Lake Erie and Lake Huron. In her retirement years, she and Bob also enjoyed their winter stays in Florida.
Nina, or "Great Grandma Nine" as she loved to be called, is predeceased by her devoted husband Bob, her much loved grandson Jeff, and all her siblings. She is survived by her five children, Gail, JoAnne, Jim, Ron, and Denise, their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and nine greatgrandchildren, as well as a large and loving extended family. She will be remembered fondly by numerous friends, many from her days of roller skating and cardplaying. Peace be with you, Mom.
Nina spent her last five years at Willowgrove Long Term Care residence, where she received the care and support she needed as her health failed. Her children extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff who treated Mom with respect and warmth, through her good times and bad, and the trying times of covid. Your kindness and patience will not be forgotten.
You are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Mom's life at Marshall Memorial United Church, 20 Gilbert Ave., Ancaster, ON, for a service and reception, on Monday, August 21 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Nina's memory to the Salvation Army, Ancaster Community Services, or a charity of your choice.
