Beloved wife of Zbyszek for 45 years. Adoring mother of Elizabeth & Lewis and Robert & Cristina. Cherished Babcia of Frank, John Paul, Sebastian and Matthew. Predeceased by her parents Jan and Aniela, her in-laws Wladyslaw and Helena, her sister Czesia and brother-in-law Wiesiek. Leona will be sadly missed by her sisters, brother, in-laws, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends in Canada and Poland.
Leona was born on February 20th, 1957; a short distance from Janów Lubelski, Poland. After seizing an opportunity to immigrate to Canada in 1974, Leona, and then subsequently with Zbyszek, established a life for themselves in Hamilton. Although settling into a new country and starting a family was not always easy, Leona approached each challenge with courage, determination, and hard work - values which she reinforced with her children.
In April 2022, Leona finally retired at the age of 65 from the HWDSB, where she was most recently employed for 16 years. She was beloved by many staff and students. When not working, Leona could be found spending time with her family, helping her children or preparing meals in the kitchen. Leona was a talented cook whose pierogi, cabbage rolls and roasts were second to none. Of all the things Leona accomplished in her life, her most treasured role was that of Babcia to her four “Babci Boys”. After years of sacrifice and dedicated work, Leona found immense joy in showering her boys with her attention and fulfilling their every wish, whether it was hours playing at the park or a visit to ToysRUs. After a day with Babcia, her boys' hearts were filled with love, and their pockets lined with chocolate and candy. Leona’s family feels truly blessed to have had such a wonderful person in their lives to guide them and set such a positive example. Leona’s legacy of love, selfless giving and sense of humour will be remembered by everyone who knew her.
A special thank you to Dr. Lepic and all the nurses and staff at Juravinski Hospital for their compassionate care over the past year and a half.
