Peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the age of 94. John is predeceased by his wife Marjorie (2006). He is survived by his son David John Carrick. John will be lovingly remembered by devoted family members. John was a longtime employee of Dofasco, retiring in 1984, after 44 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, serving on the front line. An active member in his community, John was a long time member of the Masonic Order, serving as, Worshipful Master at St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 593, Commander in Chief of Moore Sovereign Consistory and an active member of The Supreme Council of Canada. John was a life time member of Westdale United Church and he served for many years on the Board of the Hamilton District Association for Community Living. He was also an avid supporter of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Stratford Festival. Friends will be received at THE MARLATT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 615 Main Street East, (just east of Sanford), on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 2-4 and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8, with Masonic Service to follow. Funeral Service will be held at The Scottish Rite, 4 Queen Street South, Hamilton, on Tuesday at 11am. Interment at Woodland Cemetery to follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations in John’s memory may be made to either, Westdale United Church, The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation or Community Living Hamilton.
