Predeceased by her husband Donald, son Paul “Jake”, brothers Larry and Jack and sister Kathleen. Survived by sons Gary (Helen) of Michigan, and Brian of British Columbia. Cherished grandmother of Tina (Brian) of Texas, and Nadine (Rob) of New Mexico. She will also be dearly missed by her 3 great-grandchildren who loved their “cookie” grandma very much and nieces Patricia and Marilyn of Burlington.
Mom worked at Westinghouse during WW2 and at a later time in her life, she worked part-time at Sears at the Centre Mall. Our sincere thank you to all of the staff of St. Joseph’s Villa and a huge thank you to her personal caregiver Cathy Garrity, who was with Mom from the beginning to the end of her time at the Villa. Irene will be lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Due to COVID-19, all events are restricted to a specified number of attendees. Visitors are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. A Memorial Service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. Interment at Hamilton Cemetery. A livestream of the service will be available to view by logging on to the services page of www.markeydermody.com In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton would be appreciated by the family.
