It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved Husband and Father Henry Lech in his 87th year. Loving father of Andrew (Farrah) and wife of 51 years Arlene. Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday July 17th.
Henry was born in Krakow Poland on May 29, 1937. Henry came to Canada in 1972. He worked at Allied TV as a TV technician, and then as a Maintenance technician at the Hamilton Spectator for 18 years. Henry was a master technician, anything that needed fixing was fixed so that the paper always made it out on time in the morning. During his time there, they never hired anyone else and would rely on him for anything electrical or tech related.
Henry loved working with his hands and fixing things. There were never any service or repair men that were called as he fixed everything from appliances, to cars, to watches etc. If there was no available tool needed for the repair job, Henry would design his own tool to use. Henry’s biggest project was his house, he designed and built everything from the garage to a full recreational room. Henry enjoyed fixing things for his friends and was always the life of the party. Henry also enjoyed spending time outdoors and took his family camping often or in his later years he enjoyed relaxing and having a drink in his backyard that he designed. Henry was a long time member of the Polish Alliance of Canada.
We would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses on the ALC floor 6 of St. Joseph’s hospital for the wonderful care and compassion during his final days. Henry will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East on Wednesday July 24 from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King on Thursday at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if able, any donations would be greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of funeral/ burial service.
