Eric was a veteran of WWII having served in both the RCAF in Newfoundland and the Army, training as a paratrooper in Shiloh, Manitoba. After being discharged from the armed forces, he worked for many years as a small engine mechanic at Gulliver's Sport and Cycle, Barton St. E. and in later years at Frank's Outboard Marine, west Hamilton.
Eric was a man who liked to be with people and always had a story to tell. He was involved in many clubs over the years. He was a long standing, proud member of the Black Hawks Motorcycle Club and won many trophies racing in mud and on the ice in Cootes Paradise. He later turned his interest to flying and joined the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 65. He rebuilt a factory built 1937 Aeronca K in his garage and basement. Eric was a licensed pleasure pilot and you could find him often at Mount Hope airport.
Eric will be sadly missed by all those who have known him over the years. The Campbell family would like to thank the Domingues family, John, Rosa, Natalie, Stephanie and their extended family for adopting Eric into their family and looking out for him so he could remain in his home for as long as he did. Eric will be forever in their hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff of Durand Retirement Home for making him welcome when he had to leave his home in 2016. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hamilton General Hospital for their support and compassionate care.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family will gather at TRUSCOTT, BROWN & DWYER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1309 King Street East (across from Gage Park at the Delta) on Monday, March 26 from 1 pm to 5 pm. A private, family interment will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
