He was the loving husband of Elizabeth (2020) for 59 years. He was the devoted father of Kelly (Brad), Scott (Laryssa) and Paul (Tara), proud grandfather of Colin (Daniella), Tessa (Jake), Liam, Chloe, Amanda, Joshua and Ethan, and very proud great-grandfather of McKinley.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Elva Marshall and brothers-in-law Robert (Gail) Gault, Thomas (Joan) Gault and sister-in-law Hazel (Stanley) Fitzell, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Bertha Marshall, his brother Alan, and father- and mother-in-law Thomas and Elizabeth Gault.
Born near Leeds in Yorkshire, England, Doug and his family moved to Hamilton when he was young. He proudly worked at Stelco for thirty years at both Canada and Lake Erie Works and still enjoyed meeting up with former colleagues for coffee each morning.
Doug was an active member of Linden Park United Church for more than fifty years and an avid bowler until the very end. He was a past volunteer at both Neighbour to Neighbour and Wesley Centre food banks.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses at both Juravinski and the General Hospitals who were responsible for his care. We appreciate their care, compassion and communication at this difficult time.
According to Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received for visitation at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton (905) 387-2111 on Monday, August 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday, August 29th from 10:00 am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Linden Park United Church Memorial Fund in Doug’s memory would be appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cresmountfennellchapel.com for the Marshall family.
