It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Edward Jenkins, fondly known as "Davey J", on November 4, 2023.
Born in Hamilton to the late Edward (Pat) and Elizabeth (Betty), Davey J’s life was a tapestry of love, community, and dedication. His journey was marked by the unyielding bond he shared with his loving wife and best friend Sandy of 54 years. He is survived by his wife Sandy, son Colin (wife Nancy), grandchildren Riley (23) and Kaitlyn (16), and siblings June, Tom, and Ann Marie. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Susan.
Davey J’s memories span a lifetime, filled with shared laughter, adventures, and fond recollections of the good old days with family, including many cherished nieces, nephews., great-nieces and great-nephews. To Davey J, his grandchildren weren’t just his pride and joy; they were a testament to a life well-lived. Their milestones became his, their laughter his elation. He cherished every moment spent with them and often spoke of his immense pride in their achievements and the individuals they were becoming. Their growth and journeys stand as his most enduring legacy, reflecting the love, values, and lessons he imparted.
A significant chapter of Davey J’s life was his unwavering passion for coaching hockey. His leadership touched various teams and associations, including the Hamilton Minor Hockey Association, Flamborough Gamblers Junior C Hockey Club, Stoney Creek Minor Hockey Association and the renowned Ontario Monarchs Elite Hockey Program. Through coaching, Davey J not only shaped the game but also instilled life values of dedication, teamwork, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on young athletes both on and off the ice. In his professional life at Oshawa Foods (Food City and Price Chopper), Davey J was more than a manager.
He forged deep relationships, becoming a mentor, friend, and confidant to many. His tenure in the industry saw countless bonds strengthened, fostering a familial atmosphere that resonated wherever he went. Beyond his professional commitments, Davey J reveled in baseball, bowling, fishing, and high-spirited card games. The Jenkins family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teams at the Nephrology unit and the Hemodialysis Centre at St Joseph’s hospital for their unwavering care and support. As we remember Davey J, we honor a legacy rich in love, wisdom, and cherished moments.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton (905) 387-2111. Funeral Mass on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (620 Rymal Road East, Hamilton) with interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery (254 Garner Road West, Ancaster). All are warmly invited to reflect and share tales of this remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
