Born on June 4, 1927 in London England to the late Alfred and Eleanor Carty. As a teenager Alma was among the thousands of children evacuated from London to the British countryside during WWII to avoid German bombing. She ended up in a village in Norfolk where she met Bernard, while he was home on leave from the RAF. He would become the love of her life.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Bernie and her sister Eileen (Richardson), she is survived by her three children; Felicity, Stephen (Michele) and Alyson (Bart), 7 grandchildren: Jamie (Wendy) and Christie (Adam) Burr, Veronica Luckett, Sarah Luckett-Gatopoulos (Sebastian) and Michael (Jennifer) Gatopoulos, Tristan and Kieran Uchida, and 10 great-grandchildren: Liam Dooley, Ayden and Emmeline Samms, Emma and Jack Gatopoulos, Chloe and Reed Anderson, and as “Lucky Nana” to Sarah, Cameron and Ally Burr.
Special thanks to Gene Uchida for his loving care, attention, and concern for her in her later years.
She was a woman of many talents that included working with elders, dressmaking, quilting, baking, gardening, antique collecting, photography and crafting.
Cremation was conducted, following her wishes, at Cresmount Funeral Home in Hamilton.
