It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jim on August 20, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. Jim was born in Hamilton on April 21, 1943 (the same date as the Queen he would tell you) to Bud and Sally Turnbull, and was the older brother to Judith Otis (predeceased) and Suzanne Russ. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40+ years, Bonnie; his children Brad Granatier (Corinna), Denise Granatier-Lemyre (Jonathan) and Tiffany Turnbull (Chris Huey); his grandchildren Coleson Hawke (Chelsea) and Isabel Granatier (Mason Villamere); his great-granddaughter Coah Hawke; and his dog Teddy. He will also be remembered by many extended family members, and those whose lives he touched - both close friends and colleagues.
Jim had a long, difficult battle with cancer, but was an optimist and a fighter throughout. For those that came to visit or reached out during this time, he was grateful, and your kindness was appreciated. He cherished his hometown and was a lifelong Tiger-Cats fan and season-ticket holder. Jim was an athlete well into his seventies, who enjoyed curling and fishing, but most of all getting out on the links for a round of golf. Jim was a skilled salesman whose career included many years at Fiberglas Canada and Johns Manville, and then later shifted to the roofing industry under Turnbull Consulting. He worked until he was 80 years old because he loved the people. You would never hear a negative comment from him about anyone... except maybe the Ticats referees.
The family is grateful to the Juravinski hospital team for their exceptional patient care and compassion throughout Jim’s illness. In remembrance of Jim, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Cancer Assistance Program https://cancerassist.ca or the Juravinksi Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation https://hamiltonhealth.ca.
Come join us in celebrating Jim’s life on Saturday, September 21st from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Hamilton Victoria Curling Club, 568 King St. E., Hamilton. Jim/Dad/Papa you brightened all our lives, and we will forever miss you. Until we meet again, we’ll keep an eye out for cardinals.
