William R. Scholz

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of William, known to most as “Bill”, Robert Scholz - a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. A very passionate, humble and kind man, he was loved and respected by all who knew him. Although no one was prepared for his death on December 27, 2023, his love will be shared forever through those that were fortunate enough to know him.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and resilience. He was a source of strength, wisdom and care to his family and friends. He was the proud father of three children - Lisa, William, and Robert - and a connected and encouraging grandfather to Heather and Bryson. His life was enriched by the laughter, joy, and accomplishments of his family, whom he cherished above all else.

For an impressive 66 years, Bill shared a bond of unwavering love and companionship with the love of his life, Susan. Their journey together was a testament to the enduring power of love, commitment, and shared dreams. They lived life fully and the simple phrase “why not!” guided their retirement years. Bill and Susan built a life full of shared memories in Southern Ohio, Western North Carolina and beautiful places throughout the world - especially the beaches of Destin, Florida - weathering both the joys and challenges with a deep and abiding love that served as an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to witness it.

Bill's impact extended far beyond the walls of his home. A man of integrity and kindness, he touched the lives of those around him with his generosity, compassion, and genuine concern for others. He was an accomplished leader, although would he down-play it, in the paper industry for over 36 years and retired from Nationwide Papers at time when his career was still flourishing to spend more time with his family and explore his other passions. Colleagues and staff from his career loved Bill, encouraged by his personal written notes of encouragement, challenged to grow by him both personally and professionally and cared for when they needed grace and “second chances.”

In addition to his role as a dedicated family man, Bill had a passion for and excelled in sports from a young age. Susan often joked they would probably get married on a ballfield! He loved golf and shared this love with many friends and family members. He played the game like he lived life – caring most about who he was playing with, constantly trying to improve and happy to celebrate the success of others. He was a man of unwavering faith and gave his life to volunteering in several United Methodist and Evangelical Lutheran church communities. Whether spending time with his family and friends, pursuing his hobbies, or simply enjoying the beauty of life, Bill embraced each moment with gratitude, joy and excellence.

As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Bill for the love he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the joy he brought into our lives. While he may no longer be physically present, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts and memories of those who were privileged to know him. Those who knew him will have access to the everlasting bridge of love he created.

May Bill rest in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the richness of a life well-lived.
