Age 90 of Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, passed away on Saturday January 13, 2018. He was born on November 10, 1927 in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late Emmer and Mamie (Millward) Shinn. Kenneth graduated from Alliance High School in January of 1945 and enrolled in General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan. In April of 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in October, 1947. He graduated from Kettering University in 1950 and married Joyce Alene Crane in Linden, Michigan on August 3, 1951. He completed 40 years of service with GM in 5 different locations in Michigan and Ohio, retiring as Plant Manager of Fisher Body Hamilton in 1985. He joined the faculty of Miami University at Oxford in 1986 as an adjunct Professor in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Department, retiring in 2006. Kenneth was a Registered Professional Engineer, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the Engineering Society of Detroit. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Flint, Michigan and in Hamilton. His wife preceded him in death in 2009, also his brother, Lee Shinn and sister, Jeanette Farry. Kenneth is survived by his son, Randall of Hamilton and daughter, Elisabeth (Patrick) McNamara of Franklin, TN; two grandsons, Timothy (Amber) McNamara and Harrison (Mallorie) McNamara, and 2 great grandchildren, Rylie and Jackson McNamara. Funeral ceremony will be held at 1pm Wednesday January 17, 2018 at the Mary Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Village with Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating. Visitation will be held prior to services from 11am to 1pm. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Contributions may be made in his memory to Mt.
