Shirley Juanita (Fox) Vaughan passed away June 28th, 2021. She was the elder daughter of Sidney Wallace Fox and Mildred Jane (Hawes) Fox. Born in Spry Harbour on October 5, 1935, she attended Halifax Public School and graduated from St. Patrick’s Girls High School. Following this she attended Halifax Regional Vocational School where she graduated with a Secretarial Diploma. After which, she worked as a secretary for many years. While raising her children, she attended Mount Saint Vincent University where she received a Secretarial Diploma with distinction. She later received a Bachelor of Business Administration cum laude and a Bachelor of Education. She then went on to teach at MSVU and then moved on to the Nova Scotia Community College where she developed the secretarial science program. She was a proud pioneer and champion of female education. In her later years, she played bridge and volunteered in politics. She spent a lot of time in Tangier at her cottage and with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband and former MLA, James Vaughan; her brother George Fox; and her granddaughter Vanessa Vaughan. She is survived by her children Dr. Daniel Vaughan (Dr Joanne Bacchus Vaughan), Abilene Texas; Ted Vaughan (Tracey Vaughan), Halifax; and Victoria Vaughan, Halifax. She is also survived by her sister Thelma Greenwood; niece Kelly Greenwood (Karl Penney) who was like a daughter to her; grandchildren Terrance Vaughan, Peter Vaughan, Leslie Vaughan (Tokyo, Japan), Amanda Vaughan, Hannah Vaughan (Dallas, Texas), Patrick Vaughan (Abilene, Texas), James Vaughan and Avery Vaughan.
