Born in Paradise, Annapolis County, NS. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Lulu (Durling) Corbett.
She was a graduate of Mack Business College, Kentville, NS. She had been a member of the Lawrencetown Baptist Church, supporting many functions from fund raising to President of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. As well she was an active member of the Lawrencetown Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary. Shirley was a pillar in her community supporting charity fundraising, founding supporter of the Lawrencetown Youth Arena, an avid bridge player belonging to the same group for over 60 years. She also enjoyed gardening, loved rug hooking and all her ‘hooker’ friends. Shirley was excited about the annual Annapolis County Exhibition which she would watch from the front porch with many others, then you would find her ring side for the next seven days. Above all else she was a die hard liberal and loved to talk politics with anyone.
Survived by her is daughter Melanie Fiske (Trevor Tracey) of Windsor, NS and Son Jeffrey (Mona) of New Minas, NS. Two special grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Keegan and Charlsea. Brothers in Law Ralph (Claire), John (Lyn) Fiske all of Halifax, several nieces and nephews and many very special friends and neighbours who are like family to her. Shirley was a keeper, and will be greatly missed by all.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, besides her parents she was predeceased by the love of her life husband Leon, sisters Doris, Glennie and infant sister Freda, brother Malcolm.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3 2013, at her residence 509 Main Street, Lawrencetown from 2-5pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4th at 2:00pm in the Lawrenectown Baptist Church. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Shirley’s memorial to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church.
