Rose Marie Gaffney (Murphy, Wolodka), age 62 of Halifax, passed away January 31, 2014. Born in Sydney, NS, on September 10, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Arthur James and Mary Agnes Murphy. Rose Marie was raised in Glace Bay with her adopted parents Arthur and Mary. She spent 18 years with Tim Horton’s and 5 years with the Commissionaires. She enjoyed word and picture puzzles, and was a dedicated foster parent for over 10 years. She often traveled back to Cape Breton for visits and to go the Miners Museum to connect with her adopted father. Rose Marie used to surprise people with the number of languages she was fluent in – English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Cantonese – and could understand numerous more. Rose Marie was a very loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Philip Rodden Gaffney; daughter, Wandalee Elaine Wiswell of Dartmouth; son, Rodden James Gaffney of Dartmouth; sister, Mary Lyons (Charles) Murphy of Glace Bay; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Wayne) Brayton of Brockville, ON, Moyra (Douglas) Sinclair of Georgia; brothers, Joseph and James Murphy of AB; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (455-0531) on Sunday, February 2, 2014, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm with Liturgy of the Word on Monday, February 3, at 10:30 am in St. Benedict’s Parish with reception to follow.
