Born in Halifax on February 5, 1935 he was the son of the late Margaret (Abriel) Savage and William H. Eddy.
He joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a RCR in 1955 with postings to Germany, Ipperwash, ON, London, ON and Halifax, before retiring as a cadet training officer for the Atlantic region. He served on three UN Peace Keeping Tours to Cyprus and participated in the Franklin Expedition in 1973.
Ron was honoured to serve the last part of his career with the DND and the many friends he made along the way. He looked forward to travelling to London, ON, every summer to visit family and friends, and camping on weekends at Orchard Queen, Middleton, NS. Ron enjoyed playing a game of golf, especially with his grandson and nephews. He was an avid hockey fan and throughout the years was seen around the rink taking his grandson to his games.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marilyn (Crowe); son, Brian (Sherri), London, ON; daughter, Marilyn Ann McAdam, Halifax. Special Papa to granddaughters: Melissa, Halifax; Allison (Derek Decleir), London, ON; Ashley, Toronto, ON; grandson: Jamie, Halifax. Two great grandchildren, Alexis and Carter. Special uncle to Danny (Cheri), Port George, Nicola (Barry), Bedford, Terry-Ann, Port George, Brent (Chrystal) Brickton, Myrnalyn (Rob), Greenwood; Phillip (Karen), Middleton; sisters, Jean, Sheila, Barb, Dale, Joan; brothers, William, Alan and Bruce.
Predeceased by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrna and Lloyd Townsend; mother-in-law, Anita Crowe.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm in JA Snow Funeral Home (339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax) with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or the Diabetes Association.
