Bob died at the age of 84 on October 29, 2017 in Parkland at the Gardens. He was born in Halifax and was the younger son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Stokes) Deegan.
Bob attended Alexander MacKay School, St. Patrick’s High School and Saint Mary’s University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954 and Bachelor of Commerce in 1955.
Following graduation Bob enrolled in the Chartered Accountants Program, articling with H.R. Doane and Company. He received his CA designation in 1958. Except for 4 years as Comptroller of St Mary’s University, Bob spent his entire career at H.R. Doane and its successors. Bob retired in 2002. He was very active in the finances of the Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax serving for over 30 years as the treasurer of the Particular Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Hope Cottage. Bob served 8 years as treasurer on the Board of St. Vincent’s Guest House appointed by the Archbishop.
Bob was a quiet man with a quick wit and a generous spirit.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Mary Eileen (Anderson) and his brother Thomas (Tom); two sister-in-law, Audrey and Kay (Laurie Smith). He is survived by his nieces Donna (Tony Smith) of Mississauga, Ontario, Karen (David Dorman) of London, Ontario and his nephew Brian (Diane) of Toronto; his sister-in-law Edith (James Warner) and many Stokes and several McGinn and Deegan cousins.
The family extends its thanks to all who enabled Bob to remain in his home until recently.
There will be no visitation. The Funeral Service will be held at St Agnes Parish on Mumford Road, Friday November 3 at 10am followed by a family internment at the Gates of Heaven cemetery.
