It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Richard (Dick) Sweeney at the QEII (Halifax Infirmary) on Saturday morning, March 19th, 2011. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late William Sweeney and Eva (Kennedy). He grew up in Chipman, NB. In his early years, he worked with CNR followed by service in the Korean War; for many years, he worked with the Robert Simpson Company and retired from the Corps. of Commissionaires. Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leona (Meister), sons, David (Stephanie) and Brian (Pamela), and daughter, Catherine (Todd Wigglesworth). He was a loving Grandpa to Jesse and Larissa Sweeney, Emma Sweeney and Justin, Logan and Grace Wigglesworth. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Sweeney, Hamilton, Ontario, and many nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. Dick remained a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Chipman, NB for over 60 years. He was predeceased by brothers, Brian and Paul, and a sister, Gertrude. In addition, he was predeceased by brother, William, and sisters, Anna and Martha in early childhood. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Benedict Church, Radcliffe Drive, Halifax on Thursday, March 24th at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation at the request of the family.
