It is with great sadness that we, the family of Richard Carrier, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 28,2024. Richard was born in Levis, Quebec in 1938 to the late Cecile and Amedee Carrier. Richard started his career in property management in 1962 in Montreal. In 1974, he took a transfer to Halifax to work with the Marcil Group. He stayed with the Marcil Group until1982 when he opened his
own company, RJC Real Estate Management. He was a very accomplished and successful businessman in the Halifax-Dartmouth area. Richard gained the respect of those who worked for and with him, until his retirement in 2018. He loved his job. He would always tell his grandchildren, “Whatever you are going to do in life, make sure you love it, because you will be doing it for a long time.” This is evident in the fact that he retired at 80 years of age. Richard was a very kind and generous man, always putting out a helping hand when someone was in need. He was one of the founding members of the Friends of Hope Cottage over 40 years ago. It was a charity very close to his heart and one that he was passionate about. He loved to travel, especially to Jamaica, his home in Florida and, of course, back to Quebec for the family fishing trips. Surviving family members include Richard’s stepdaughter, Wendy (Archie) McDonald; stepson Dale(Sherri) Kearney; grandchildren Brennan McDonald, Kaleigh (Nick) McDonald, and Nicole Kearney; brother, Jacques Carrier; sisters, Pierette Huard-Carrier, Mariette Samson-Carrier, Gisele Roy-Carrier and many nieces and nephews. Richard is also survived by a very special couple that he loved dearly, Kyrle and Germaine Gallop. They started working for Richard over 30 years ago and quickly went from employees to friends, and then family. At every turn, they were always there for Richard, and their kindness will never be forgotten. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Connie, and his long-time companion, Bernadette Kearney; his sister, Raymonde Gendreau-Carrier, and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Savard-Carrier; brothers-in-law Ronald Huard, Andre Roy, Jean-Louis Samson, and John Gendreau. A special thank you is extended to the staff and all his friends at the Berkeley Gladstone. You gave him an amazing 5 years of compassion, companionship and laughter. He so loved living there. To his angel, Amanda Tinning, your support, kindness and compassion is something we can never forget.
Cremation has taken place, and a service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Visitation will take place at 2pm, Saturday, May 18, with a
service to follow at 3PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Cottage, 2435 Brunswick Street Halifax, NS.
