Son of the late Henry and Mary Corkum and husband of the love of his life and wife of 61 years Marilyn (Schurman) who he first met at Gorsebrook School.
In addition to Marilyn, he is survived by children Robert (Kirsty), Mary Jane (Todd MacLean) and Stephen, and grandchildren Gillian, Bridget, Peter ‘PJ’ MacLean and Harry, Matty and Ella Corkum and his sister Judy (Robert Scammell) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers David, Franklin (in infancy), and John. Peter attended Gorsebrook, and Queen Elizabeth High School and after graduating from Dalhousie engineering, he took over H.W. Corkum Construction Co. Ltd. from his father. He became a well-known commercial and residential building contractor in Halifax.
Peter was an accomplished athlete and coach, he excelled at many sports especially, hockey, curling, football and golf. He was inducted into six Sport’s Halls of Fame and coached Canadian Champions at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Brier and World Curling Championships.
Peter was avid gardener and enjoyed his time in his large vegetable garden and hobby farm at his much-loved summer home in St. Margaret’s Bay.
A man of strong traditions he made wonderful memories at his KaliKamp having Thanksgiving with family, deer and bird hunting with his lifelong friends and his Brittany Spaniels. He also created many happy memories fishing at Baker’s Lake and the Miramichi.

Visitation will take place at Snow’s Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, August 18, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Andrew’s United Church 6036 Coburg Road, Halifax at 4:00pm.
