It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Pat Williamson, aged 95, suddenly and at home in Halifax on August 29, 2022. Born in Ottawa, she was the daughter of Samuel and Edie (Cowing) Baker. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her two siblings, Barbara (Jack) Martin and Sam (Lois) Baker, and her beloved husband John (July 12, 2022). Pat and John were never far apart.
Pat is survived by her sons Robert "Bob" (Shelley) of Dartmouth NS and David (Cindy) of Kentville NS, and grandson John David "J.D." of Kentville. Also left to mourn are nieces and nephews Lynda (Willy) Henckel, Dick Martin, Kelley Baker (Keith Davidson), Kim Boothe (Curtis Barber), her neighbours Doug and Kaireen Chaytor, and other friends and relations, near and far.
Pat's father was a market gardener on land just beyond Ottawa's then borders. After working as a government stenographer, she married in September 1952 and moved with John to Hamilton where they built a house on Compton Place and began raising two sons. Thirteen years later they transferred to Halifax and the house where they lived the rest of their lives.
Pat was a dedicated homemaker, providing constant support for her sons and for John’s activities in his professional career and his charitable works with organizations like Rotary International. For her contributions to the community, Rotary honoured her with their Paul Harris Award.
Pat was an active member of United Church Women (UCW), and made contributions to several community groups through the donation of her many beautiful mittens. Like her mother before her, she often seemed to be knitting, and no two pairs of mittens were the same. She was also an avid reader with favourite authors. The family grieves her sudden loss.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2 PM at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax with Rev. Susan Chisholm (of St. Andrew's United Church) officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is appreciated. The service will be available to watch via live stream.
