STANTOS, Panagiota “Pota/Pat”, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 7, 2015, in the early hours of the morning, surrounded at home by the love of her family. She is now in eternal rest in the arms of God. Our beloved mother/grandmother was born in Giorgitsi, Greece, and arrived in Montreal Canada in 1948 as a young woman. She met and married Peter Stantos in Montreal later that same year, after which they moved to Halifax where they raised their two daughters, Anna and Maria. After being a devoted stay-at-home mother for many years, she entered the workforce as a cashier at the Cameo Restaurant, later as an employee of Koolex Kleaners and of One Hour Martinizing and finally at O’Brien’s Pharmacy where she remained for 23 years as a cashier. She was admired for her quick thinking, her sharp mind and her always pleasant and professional manner to all. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; brother, Nick Kopsian; a twin sister who died in infancy; sisters, Nitsa and Katina; brother and sister-in-law, George and Joanne Stantos and sisters-in-law, Mary (Alex) Kopsian and Harriet ( Nick) Kopisan. She was adored and cherished by her daughters, Anna (David) Richard; Maria (Stavros) Zoukis, by her grandsons, Adam Richard, Kimon and Alexander Zoukis; and her granddaughters, Angela and Christina Richard. She will be forever missed by her brothers, Alex (Barbara) and John (Christine) Kopsian and families, her sister, Vasio (Tom) Arvanites and family, as well as by many nieces and nephews in the United States and Greece. At this time, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and profound thanks to Dr. Stephen Gibbon, and from the Path Program Dr. Paige Moorehouse and nurse practitioner David Landry, as well as the attending VON staff, for their precious support, kindness and compassion during our Mother’s illness. Our deep thanks to Reverend Panagiotis Maropoulos for his spiritual guidance and to our many dear friends and relatives. Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, on Thursday, September 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will take place at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 38 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax, at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2015. Interment will follow immediately at St. John’s Cemetery, 6 Bedford Highway, Halifax. In honour of our Mother’s memory, a donation to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church or flowers will be gratefully accepted. Online condolences can be sent at: www.cruikshankhalifaxfuneralhome.com. .
