Murrin Leim, beloved wife of Alexander (Sandy) Leim, died at her home in Halifax on Tuesday February 2, 2021. Born on May 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ila Leach of Brownville, Ontario.
She graduated with an M.A. from Carleton University and an M.P.A.from Dalhousie University, and after a period working with the federal government Ottawa, she and Sandy moved to Nova Scotia. She spent the rest of her working life with the Nova Scotia Government as Director of Policy for the combined departments of Labour and Environment, in which capacity she occasionally served as Acting Deputy Minister.
She is survived by her husband Sandy, her sister Bonnie (George) Gaverluk, London; her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Doug Pittet, Thornbury and Collingwood, Ontario; her niece Jennifer Pittet and nephews Bruce Pittet and Adam Gaverluk.
Murrin’s bereft friends and family will always remember her as an engaged and perceptive lover of music and literature, and a sensitive and talented gardener. Her deep love for animals led to the adoption of many cats and dogs over the years, as well as to volunteer activities with Bide Awhile Animal Shelter and with the University Committee on Laboratory Animals, Dalhousie University. Murrin and Sandy also delivered Meals on Wheels for over 10 years in Halifax.
There will be no visitation or funeral service in light of the pandemic restrictions. A private celebration of Murrin’s life will take place at a later time. No flowers by request. Donations in Murrin’s memory to Symphony Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Nature Trust would be appreciated.
