Mollene Mary Dobson

The family of Mollene Dobson sadly announce her passing on November 1, 2022. Born in Jollimore, Halifax in 1947, she was the daughter of Marjorie and Bernard McQuillan.

In 1968, Mollene met Robert at a Jubilee dance. Mollene and Robert went on to have five children, Jennifer (John) Keefe; Ryan (Erin) Dobson; Catherine (Peter) Denman; predeceased by daughter Leah; Claire (Nathan) Carter. She was a devoted grandmother to Lauren, Leah, Owen, Hunter and Jaxson. Their beloved beagle Ollie, will miss the crumbs at her feet. She was a sister to Leigh (Betty) McQuillan; Madelyn (David) Melbourne; Kerry (Kenny) Cook; and loved her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother, Rawley McQuillan; sister-in-law, Barb MacKinnon; and brother-in-law, Neil MacKinnon. Mollene and Robert recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 19th.

Mollene dedicated her life to loving and raising children. Her home was always filled with the excitement and emotions of children of all ages, and she spoiled everyone with the comforts of home cooked meals. We will have to fill in the details on her handwritten recipes, because a little of this and that was added on the fly. In addition to her own children, she looked after many little ones over the years. They became part of her extended family, and she frequently put others’ needs before her own. She gave with a generous heart, took comfort in her faith and she truly had the patience of a saint.

Mollene loved spending time outdoors and shared her favorite spots with loved ones who will continue to visit these places and remember her fondly. Family walks around the Frog Pond and Dingle; learning to swim at William’s Lake; beach days at the Old Lady’s, Smith’s, Crystal Crescent and Hirtle’s beaches; and picking cranberries in Prospect. She loved flowers and held her garden center receipts close to her chest, choosing brightly colored perennials and annuals to admire well into the fall. Her love of nature has been passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Many of her family members will be lost without their daily phone calls for much needed advice on child rearing, questionable best before dates, a recounting of the day's events and sharing many laughs. She was genuinely interested in the words from loved ones, and gave people her listening ears. She would offer advice, often not hold back how she felt, and because of this you always knew where you stood. Mollene’s family and friends meant the world to her.

A visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax on Monday, November 7th, from 4-7 p.m., with a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Shad Bay on Tuesday, November 8th at 11 a.m. with family burial to follow.
