It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jack McGrath, age 85 of Halifax. Dad passed away peacefully on September 13, 2019. Born and raised in Saint John, NB, the son of the late John and Mary McGrath.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mimi and sister, Claire Gormley. He is survived by his three children, Janet (Bill) Ivory, David (Karen) McGrath, Paul (Susan Russell McGrath) McGrath; sister, Joan (Vince) Savoie; brother, Mike (Rosemary) McGrath; grandchildren, Nick (Caitlin), Kelsey, Sean, Jillian (Jamie), Andrew, Jennifer; great granddaughter, Rose, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University and Nova Scotia Technical College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Co Ltd. (MT&T) for 33 years, retiring as Chief Engineer in 1990. He was proud of his career and valued the people he worked with. Dad’s competitive spirit was easy to spot on the tennis court, golf course, bowling alley, and even as he strategized playing bridge. He loved to be active, and was an avid tennis player well into his 80s. His love of cars began at the young age of 8, when he first started driving. Dad was always eager to find opportunities to lend a helping hand to his community, including those at his church, St. Agnes, and his friends and family.
Our deepest gratitude to the team at Evan Hall for their endless support to Jack.
Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Wednesday, September 18th from 3 pm - 6 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 19th at 11 am, in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax.
