It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Agnes Mary MacDonald on Monday, December 9, 2024, a cherished soul whose radiant smile and boundless generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on July 24, 1929, in Halifax, NS, she was a daughter of the late John and Ethel (Gough) MacDonald and twin sister to the late Arthur Alexander MacDonald.
Agnes was employed as a secretary with the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) for 43 years. Her desk drawer was a treasure trove –whether you needed a band-aid, an aspirin, or a spare pair of pantyhose, she always had just the thing to save the day.
A lover of celebration, Agnes found delight in the magic of holidays. Her co-workers were often greeted by thoughtful treats left on their desks, a gesture that became one of her many beloved traditions. Her generosity extended far beyond sweets; she quietly helped others purchase necessities they couldn’t afford, never seeking recognition but always leaving a profound impact.
Agnes was not only well-liked but deeply loved by her colleagues, who admired her warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness. Many of these workplace friendships blossomed into lifelong bonds.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched. As we say goodbye, let us honor her memory by carrying forward her kindness and her belief in the power of a thoughtful gesture.
Rest in peace, Agnes. You will forever be in our hearts.
At Agnes’s request, there will be no visitation. Memorial Service to be held at St. Matthews United Church, Barrington Street, Halifax, NS on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 1:00 pm, with interment to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS.
