Mary Lawen, a beloved sister, daughter, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 20, 2024, in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 53. Born on December 20, 1970, in Halifax, she lived a life marked by joy, kindness, and a bright spirit that profoundly touched all who knew her.
Mary Cherished her time with her housemates and family, finding immense happiness in their company. Her role at Prescott Group also held a special place in her heart, where she found joy and fulfillment. She had a passion for dance and her free-spirited nature filled every room with joy.
Mary’s laughter was contagious, and her presence had the power to illuminate even the darkest moments. She was a beacon of warmth and kindness, always ready with a smile. Her positive soul and infectious joy left an unforgettable mark on her community and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mary was surrounded by dedicated caretakers who became like family to her: Jennifer, Marybelle, Shayna, Candice, Kate, and many others who cared for her.
Mary is survived by her loving siblings, sister Catherine (Ramzi) Tawil, brother Michael (Suzanne) Lawen, sister Samia (George) Khoury, nieces and nephews, Nancy, John, Eddy and Alex Tawil, Jack, Matthew and Nena Lawen and Joseph, Anthony, Manelle, Daniel, Nicholas and Peter Khoury. She is predeceased by her parents, Ayoub and Noha Lawen.
A wake memorial service will be held in her honour on Sunday, June 23 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cruikshank Halifax Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at Saint Antonios Orthodox Church on 2480 Windsor Street, Halifax on Monday June 24, at 11:00am. Father Maximos Saikali officiating. Burial in St. John Cemetery.
