GREENLAW, Marjorie Frances (née Haverstock) – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in the long-term care unit of the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. She was born in Hammonds Plains, NS, to the late Frank and Margaret Haverstock, and predeceased by brother Gerald Haverstock, Halifax. Marje attended Queen Elizabeth High School Halifax, before completing her nursing training at the Halifax Infirmary in 1954. While there she met and married the love of her life and best friend, Dr William (Bill) Greenlaw, who predeceased her in 2008 after over 50 years of marriage. Marje has been described as one of the most energetic and enthusiastic women, who could outpace all of us, and who hosted parties that would put politicians on their heels. She loved her work as a registered nurse at Laurier Manor in Ottawa, and for many years at Northwood Manor in Halifax. She volunteered with Gloucester Swim Club and the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, curling, shopping, golfing, travelling, and spending time with her many friends, who will miss her sparkling personality immensely. Marje’s greatest pride and enjoyment were in taking care of her family, making sure each of them knew how much she loved them, and welcoming guests to her beautiful home.
She is survived by her loving children, Jayne (Jim) Amadio, St. Catharines ON.; Janis (Michael) Cosgrove, Bridgewater; Bill Greenlaw (Stephanie Carver), Halifax; and Jill (Peter) Sorra, Toronto. “Nanni” was adored by her grandchildren, Jennifer Amadio (Adam Mosa), Gregory Amadio (Jaqueline Lee) and Jeffrey (Nicole) Amadio; Neil McPhee (Catherine Hynes) and Stephanie McPhee; Michael Greenlaw (Ava Whitney-Coulter), Christopher and Peter Greenlaw; and Kersti, Tomas and Julia Sorra. Her spirit will live on in great-grandchildren, Sophia and James Mosa. She will be greatly missed by her whole family, and by her almost-family Heike and Carrie, who were so attentive and kind to her, and to whom the family is so grateful.
The family extends appreciation to the staff at Bradford Hall, Parkland; the nurses on the orthopedics unit of the QEII Health Sciences Centre; and the nurses on 9B at the Victoria General for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, at 10:00am, followed by a reception, at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax, NS. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Inclusion Nova Scotia. Email condolences to: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
