Marjorie Rose Dow

She was born in Sydney and grew up in Edwardsville, Cape Breton. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Loretta ( Lewis ) Fraser. She graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1969, and in 1970 she married her best friend and love of her life Rod Dow with whom she had three wonderful

children and four lovely grandchildren.

She was a dedicated teacher in the Halifax County School Board, Chignecto and Pictou County School Boards. She also taught adults at the Bedford Sackville Literacy Network, helping them prepare for their GED. Always willing to try new adventures, she managed the New Glasgow Dairy Queen for 3 years and the Bedford Dairy Queen for nine years.

Marjorie enjoyed baking, cooking, making jams and pickles, and making sure she had enough pies and casseroles in her freezer in case she had unexpected company, or visits from her much-loved family from Cape Breton. She also enjoyed reading, travelling, keeping a daily journal, and going for her morning walk on the Bedford Waterfront where she met many great and interesting friends. We would like to mention the camaraderie of the ladies she met while going to Curves, and their social gatherings which she enjoyed so much.

She was dedicated to her family and played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. When Kian and Logan were young, she enjoyed making cookies and gingerbread houses with them, and every Christmas she sent a goodie package to Calgary for her other grand children Araiah and Zach but they have recently moved back home, so she was able to share great memories with them in person too.

Being a devout Catholic, Marjorie’s faith played a big role in her life. Marjorie was a proud member of the Saint Ignatius CWL. She also volunteered at the Northwood Senior Care for ten years helping the elderly

go to mass.

She admired the achievements of many women, especially the Art work and determination of Maud Lewis, and women who stood up for what they firmly believed. She often carried with her a copy of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms when she felt it necessary. Her grandchildren will benefit from a small collection of Viola Desmond ten dollar bills which she saved for them.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of fifty-three years Rod Dow, daughter Kelly (Raymond) Glen Margaret, Michael (Amy) Sackville, Fraser (Mary Jane) Bedford. Four grandchildren Logan, Kian, Araiah and Zach. Sisters Evelyn, Edwardsville, Barbara, Rudderham Rd, brothers Elmer, Edwardsville, Steve and his wife Heather, Ben Eoin.

She is predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Loretta (Lewis) Fraser, brothers Melvin, Russel, Laurence, and Joe, sister-in-law Anna Fraser, brother-in-law Max Jennings and in laws Stan and Gladys Dow.

Viewings will be held at the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Sunday, May 14th 2023 between 2-4PM and 6-8PM.

The Funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius Bedford on Monday, May 15th 2023 at 11AM.

The family would like to give their heartfelt gratitude to the staff, and the doctors on the Palliative Care Team at the V.G.
