Marie Metlej

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Marie, who peacefully passed away December 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Diman, Lebanon on April 7, 1930, she moved to Halifax in 1955 where she spent the duration of her life. A woman of deep faith and an endless love, she found joy and peace in the faces of all those she held dear.

An avid baker and cook, Marie was famous for the most delicious apple pies. Marie enjoyed knitting and crocheting, always with a story to tell and a wonderful sense of humor, even in her final days. Marie's wisdom, meekness, compassion and patience touched everyone who knew her. When her mobility kept her home-bound, she found joy and comfort in her passion for daily reading of The Bible and cross referencing the passages from English to Arabic.

Marie is survived by her son, Anthony (Sabah); grandchildren: Elias (Laina), Anne (David) Kabalen, and David (Emma); and great-grandchildren: Téa, Anthony, Talia, Michael, Sophie, William, and Maxwell. She is also survived by her siblings: Jeanette Ramia, Josephine (Rafic) Abihanna of Halifax, Simon (Nada) Saleh of Lebanon; sisters-in-laws: Catherine, Josephine, and Elaine as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Elias and her four daughters: Therese, Mary Rose, Theresa Anne, and Anne Marie; her parents Qisor and Shmoonie Salah; siblings: Anthony, Theresa, Yasmine, Joseph, Michel, John and Elias; sisters-in-laws Josie and Lucia; brothers-in-laws: Farid, Joseph, and John.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral will be Saturday, December 30, at 1:00 pm at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford St., Halifax. Burial will follow at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Thomas Aquinas Canadian Martyrs Church or to Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Halifax.

We extend a special thanks to the amazing team of doctors, nurses and staff at the Halifax Infirmary and the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building.
