He was born in Eldon, PEI on January 3, 1928, son of the late Malcolm Robert and Lucie Josephine (von Albrecht) Pitman. He is survived by his wife Ethel (Barker); his children, Patti Wilson (Peter); Susan Pitman; Malcolm (Paula); Stephen (Jerosalie); Helen Pitman (Jean-Charles Locatelli); David (Cathy Charles); Beth Pitman (Kirk Magee) and son-in-law Michael Corkum. He will be missed by his dear grandchildren Jennifer and Olivia Pitman, Michelle Corkum (Ryan Usher) and Nicole Corkum, Malcolm Pitman, Jessica and Sara Pitman, and Connell Magee; and his great granddaughters Ava and Lennox Usher.
He is also survived by his sisters Jo Rogers, Burlington, ON; Kay Gaffney, Hamilton, ON; and Sylvia Ingoldsby, Kitchener, ON and their families.
He was predeceased by his daughter Judy Corkum (2003) and his sister Helen Topliss, New Zealand (1961).
He loved spending time with family and friends at their cottage on the Gulf Shore Road in Cumberland County as well as working in the garden. Mac and Ethel also enjoyed many trips to the Siesta Key area of Florida and trips to Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
Mac was a graduate of the Yarmouth County Academy. In 1947 he joined Nightingale Hayman and Company Chartered Accountants (now KPMG Canada); he obtained his CA in 1952 and became a partner in 1954 serving clients in Sydney, Bridgewater and Halifax and was a member of the Institute of CA’s in NS, NFLD and Ontario. He joined National Sea Products (now Highliner Foods) in 1967 as Comptroller and retired as Vice President in 1992.
He was active in his community and was past president of the Arthritis Society, the Halifax-Dartmouth Junior Achievement and the Maritimes Financial Executives Institute. He was active in the Sydney Rotary Club and the Bridgewater Kinsmen. He had been a member of the Halifax Board of Trade, the Probus Club of Halifax, the Halifax Club as well as the Ashburn Golf Club and the Saraguay Club.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at Drummond Hall who took great care of Malcolm during the time of his illness.
