Age 81, Halifax, passed away peacefully March 19, 2021, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Waverly, March 28, 1939, he was a son of the late Lillian (Williams) Sparks and Harold Sparks Sr.
Leonard was a veteran serving with the Canadian Army Reserve Unit. He retired after 34 years working with C.N.R. He had an amazing boxing career and was Canadian Welterweight Champion, Canadian Junior Welterweight Champion and Maritime Welterweight Champion. Leonard was ranked 10th in the world. He was honored by the C.P.B.C with an honorary lifetime boxing award. Inducted into the Maritime Sport Hall of Fame and the Black Ice Hockey & Sports Hall of Fame Society. Leonard was past Worshipful Master of Masons Equity Lodge 106 and a Shriner of Philae.
Leonard is survived by his devoted wife Beverly (Jones) Sparks and his loving children and step children. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
Leonard was predeceased by his brother Harold Jr. and sisters Violet Sparks and Frances (Sparks) Carvery.
