Kwan earned his BSc in Mathematics and MSc in Computer Science at Dalhousie University, and was well known as a senior IT professional and software manager, most recently at CarteNav Solutions in Halifax.
He is survived by his wife, Ling Hong, his daughters Alison and Samantha, and his son Jason, all of Halifax, as well as his father and three brothers and six sisters and their families, all in Malaysia. He was predeceased by his mother.
Kwan was a member of a small and tight knit community of Malaysia expatriates in Halifax, who with Ling and his family will miss Kwan tremendously for his positive approach to solving all our problems and taking great care of family and friends. He was and will always be Jee to his friends and Uncle Jee to all the children. Fit as a fiddle and the consummate badminton player, many of us learned to avoid his spike and tricky drop shots. He captured countless once in a lifetime moments with family and friends with his camera. His love for his family was apparent in everything that he did. If you knew Kwan, you would like him. If you knew him well, you would love him. He was always smiling and always had a joke and a kind word to share.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Saturday, May 20 from 6 to 8 pm, and the Memorial service at Snow’s on Sunday, May 21 at 10:00 am, led by Dr. Peter Secord. Reception to follow.
Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Kwan may be made to Dalhousie University, Faculty of Medicine, Emergency Medical Research, or to the QE2 Foundation, memorial donations, for Venous Thromboembolism Research.
