It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our father/grandfather John Gregory McGrath as a result of a brief illness on May 14th, 2023 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, NS on September 29, 1938. He was the son of the late Edgar McGrath and Emma Mae McGrath
John will be greatly missed by his children, Kevin McGrath, Paula (Rod) Glencross and Kathleen (Marty) Adair and his grandchildren; Alica, Eric, Jaclyn, Melissa, Nadine and latest addition; First Great Granddaughter, Elsie Glencross.
John will also be sincerely missed by his dear friend Marie Oakley.
After retiring as a Counsellor from NS Commission on Drug Dependence, our father’s passion was woodworking. He spent many hours in his workshop making wooden toys, pens, quilt hangers, cars and more. Anything handmade by dad was given to family and/or friends as gifts. He also enjoyed road trips exploring Nova Scotia and watching old movies. Our father’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
John had a contagious smile. He was a generous person who touched our lives with kindness. Another one of John’s passions is his love for animals. He did not hesitate to rescue them if a situation arose and some became his companion.
The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, nurses and staff of CCU 6.4/6.2 for their excellent care and compassion to our father. Special thanks to our many families, friends and neighbours for all your kind support and generosity.
Funeral Service to be celebrated in JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS on Thursday May 18th, 2023 at 10am from the chapel. Private interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lower Sackville.
Donations to the SPCA would be much appreciated.
