Joanie was the youngest child of Tom and Florence Martin. Mom loved Deadman’s Cove in Armdale, where she grew up with her nine brothers and sisters, who all predeceased her, George, Billy, Eddy, Clary and Tom Martin and her sisters, Kay Bailey, Rene Goode, Mary Murphy and Florrie DeBelie .
Joan left her mark on the world, having five children - Tom, Patty, Dan, Rob and Pete. All are living witness to the love she felt for them. Joan was also blessed with eight grandchildren, Patrick, Krista, Sean, Cait, Lexa, Ben, Tom, and James, as well as five great grandchildren.
Joanie was an accomplished artist and in her younger years an avid championship curler. Her art hangs on walls all over, as portraits, landscapes, and pets, as well as tole painting and crafts. Like most artists she was always better at the art of art, than the business of art.
Her other great passion was gardening and flowers.
Her simplest and greatest joy was visiting the cove where she grew up. She was instrumental in keeping it preserved as an historic site protected from development.
Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, from 6 pm to 8 pm, Thursday the 23rd of November. There will be a service at St. John the Baptist Church on Friday the 24th at 11:00 am.
