Passed away Monday, Feb 12th, in her care home with her husband and daughter by her side. Jeanne Macpherson (né Callaghan) was born November 5, 1935 in Bedford, NS to Harry and Emma (Elliot) Callaghan. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Macpherson, daughter Catherine (Will Trower) and grandsons Colin, Tom, and Andrew Trower, of Montreal, and several relatives on the Parsboro Shore.
Jeanne worked as a lab technician at the Victoria General Hospital, and later devoted herself to her family and community. She was a member of the Town of Bedford Coat of Arms committee and served as director of the Bedford-Sackville Meals on Wheels program. She was an active volunteer with the Bedford United Church UCW (Fireside group) and church choir, St. David’s Presbyterian Ladies Guild (Halifax), Bedford Central School library, Bedford Girl Guides, and the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History’s school visits program.
She loved fashion, music, painting, and travelling and enjoyed many trips to Europe and cruises in the Caribbean. A life-long animal lover, she supported animal welfare groups including the Bide-A-While animal shelter, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, and the Friends of the Cats of Montmartre. She was happiest at her home in Old Central Bedford and the family cottage in Martin’s River, NS, surrounded by nature, family, friends, and her cats.
Sincere thanks to all the staff at Glasgow Hall, Dartmouth for their wonderful care. A service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Bide-A-While animal shelter.
