Reardon, James Edward, P.Eng., “Jim”, age 93, born in Halifax, N.S. passed away peacefully at Drummond Hall, Parkland Estates, Halifax on Monday June 17, 2013. Jim was the son of the late Clarence and Marion (Balcom) Reardon. Jim, also known as JE, was deeply saddened in March 2013 when his loving wife of 66 years, Frances passed away. He considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. He was also a lifetime member of St Thomas Aquinas Parish. After the first Spring thaw, dad would be in the garden getting the beds ready for mom to enjoy. Dad was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He completed both his high school and his Diploma in Engineering at St Mary’s College in 1942. Dad continued his education at Nova Scotia Technical College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree in 1945. Jim worked 39 years with the Public Service Commission (Halifax Water) where he established many friendships. Jim was always keenly interested in hockey, where he played as a student at High School and College levels. Dad was very fond of the family Cottage he built at Prospect Bay and it became the gathering spot for all the family celebrations. Countless trips to the Cottage in the 1950’s in his iconic pink and white Buick created many fond memories for his children.
Jim is survived and will be greatly missed by daughters Sara Tanner (Greg) Singapore, Marion Young (Wayne) Halifax and Angela Findlay (Bruce) Halifax and sons Jim (Eleanor) Dartmouth and Dr Ed (Donna) Saint John NB. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Patricia Reardon and Doreen Reardon, both of Halifax NS, Anna Garden, Enfield NS, Ann MacDonnell, Kitchener ON, and brother-in-law Stan Selig Halifax NS.
He was predeceased by wife Frances (MacDonnell), infant daughter Elizabeth (1960), grandson Rory Patrick Reardon (2011), brothers Clarence, Jack, and Bill and sisters Joan Smith, Louise Wetherell and Marie Selig.
The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Drummond Hall 4th floor. During dad’s stay as a resident, staff adapted to his ways, much as we did as family. Their kind and compassionate care was appreciated by Jim and his family.
The family will receive friends at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax B3S 0E1 (455-0531) on Friday , June 21 from 2-4 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 PM Saturday June 22 in St Thomas Aquinas Church, 1711 Oxford St, Halifax, Father Mark Cherry officiating.
