Born in Halifax in 1932, he was the son of the late Harold and Hazel (Connolly) Wood. He grew up in Centre Rawdon, attending the one room school there. He became a flying instructor with the RCAF before graduating in Dentistry from Dalhousie University. He graduated in Dental Public Health from the University of Toronto. He served with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps in Canada and Germany, serving 33 years. Then he accepted a 3 year position as Senior Dental Officer for the Bermuda Government.
He was a true gentleman, loved learning new things and greatly enjoyed life. The last years were spent golfing, travelling around the world, playing bridge (Ruby Life Master) and enjoying time with family and friends. Being an only child, get-togethers with his Wood cousins meant a lot to him. After much research, he wrote and published a history of the Wood family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Sandra (Brennan Curtis) Wood and his children Dawn Verge (Bruce) and Harold. He is also survived by his step-children Jennifer MacKinnon (Matt) and Lori Curtis (Ahmed Elsafy). He was a proud Papa to his step-grandchildren Sarah, Jane, Olive and Shams. Also sisters-in-law Darlene Jamieson and Carol Young, and mother-in-law Theresa Brennan.
We will all miss him so much and are grateful for the time we had with him. He is predeceased by his first wife Diane (Demers) and his son, Christopher.
We wish to thank Hospice Halifax, VON, and Palliative Care, for their compassionate care. Donations may be made to Hospice Halifax.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 12-2 at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax.
