Gerald Kenneth Hansen

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald K. Hansen SR, on March 4th, 2017, at the QEII hospital in Halifax at the age of 86. He was born in Halifax to the late John and Annie Hansen.

Gerald was a member of the ILA Local 269 as a longshoreman, a job he loved, for 44 years. Gerald was an honest man who worked hard all his life. He was a man of great faith and a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica. He enjoyed gardening and working around the house. Most of all, he loved his family.

He was predeseased by brothers Fred, Raymond, Walter, and Bill, and sisters Honora and Marie. He is survived by his brother Ed, wife Doris, Sons Gerald JR (Deborah), John, and Steven. And by grandchildren Jonathan and Nicole, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A very special thanks to our friends and family for their help during this trying time. We especially want to thank Dr. David Tilley for all his compassionate care and support to our family. And to all the people who helped Dad when he collapsed downtown, thank you.

From all who loved you, you will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica on Thursday, March 9th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery following Mass.
