I am very sad to hear of Ged's passing, and my condolences to family members.  He was the best man at my father's wedding, and he and Fanny were great family friends for over 60 years.  I have only heard of his death today, as I just found his obituary - I have been trying to locate him since January when my Christmas card was returned.  I would appreciate talking to a family member about his death, if they would be kind enough to contact me.

I met Ged in May 2009 as part of the early morning golf group at Ashburn. I admired his golf accuracy, his interests, his knowledge, and his wry humor. Richard Ramey

Ged Francis was a true "gentle man" considerate and fair minded in all his decisions.  He served the Agriculture Industry in several ways always in a leadership role, always a professional and yet his kindness for birds and horses always shone through.  He was a generous host when he invited Trudy and her sister to visit him in Dunnellon and toured the horse country. We enjoyed his many horsey e-mails and photos and will miss hearing from him. Ged and Fanny were very generous friends. They rowed us to their cottage in Mooseland. They walked us up Ben Franey to view Cape Breton. Entertained us at their homes in Halifax and Dunellon, Florida. Took us around to see the horse farms in northern Florida. There was always some golf included.
There are many memories of a great couple.

I was so saddened when I heard of the sudden passing of my Uncle Ged. It seemed the end of an era somehow. Only a short time ago he was emailing to say how he was enjoying Florida and all its natural beauty. He had never been one to complain about his health, so it was a shock when we heard the news.

Since the knowledge of his loss, I've been remembering the days when he and Fanny were here to visit my Dad, his brother Jim, in the fall of 1998, the year of Dad's surgery and subsequent death. It was a time of mixed emotions, from happiness in having the family together at a birthday celebration, to shock and overwhelming despair when we learned that Dad's surgery had not gone well. It was fortuitous that Ged and Fanny were here then to say their goodbyes and support us during this difficult time. I only wish that we could have been there for him as well in recent months.

As members of the West Coast Francis clan, my mother (Laura Francis) and I wish to send our sincere condolences and love to Uncle Ged's family in the East, or wherever you may reside. I consider you part of our family too, even though our paths may not have crossed. May memories sustain and comfort us.

With great sadness I read the passing of Ged Francis who I am sure many will agree was the " astute absolute gentleman".
To me he was that and more as he mentored me in the early stages of my career providing me with a wealth of knowledge and lasting learning which to this day I reflect upon.
He taught me the importance of being "true to your words" in all aspects of life.
I had always referred to Ged as Mr. Francis in respect of someone I felt deserved to be addressed as such although he would never come to expect this.
Today if I am ever in doubt as to how I should address a specific situation I would ask myself "What would Mr. Francis" have done.
In life if you are ever fortunate to come across someone such as this, consider yourself blessed.

I first met Ged when I joined Ashburn golf club in the early 1980's.
I became part of his weekend golfing foursome for more than 20 years.
I also visited Ged for winter golf in Florida where he and Fanny graciously welcomed me as their guest in Dunnellon.
In addition to being a gifted golfer and accomplished athlete he was remarkably wise, perceptive, principled and honorable.
He was a true gentleman and friend.
I am deeply saddened to learn of  his recent passing.
I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to  all remaining  family members at this time.

It was with great sadness that I read about Ged passing this morning. I worked with Ged during his entire tenure at Baxter's where I was the plant superintendent. Ged was a wonderful person to work with, always available to listen and very supportive of the employees there. I can honestly say he was one of the best managers that I have worked with throughout my career. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. My deepest condolences to the family.
