Born in Manila, Philippines in 1958, he is the son of Milagros “Mitos”, and the late Pablo, Jr. “Cholong.”
Quitoy is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Laureanne “Annie” (née Belisario), and his three sons Francisco, Ramon, and Enrique. He is also survived by his mother Mitos, his older brothers Pablo “Poling,” Rafael “Rafi,” and his sister Margarita (Nathaniel).
Quitoy studied at De La Salle Taft Grade School, and at the Ateneo de Davao University High School, where he captained the soccer team. He completed his Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of the Philippines (UPLB), and his Master of Business Administration at the University of Southern California. A devoted and well-respected businessman, he worked for Lapanday Foods Corporation in the Philippines for over 30 years, in a position that took him to many countries around the world. In 2006, he made Halifax his home, where he worked for Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters before returning to Lapanday a few years later.
In his early years, Quitoy loved to express his creative nature in his drawings, just like his father. That same creativity was channelled through cooking in his later years. He enjoyed exploring the family farm on his horse with his siblings and admired the beauty of the ocean from above and below while scuba diving and on his kayak. During his many travels, he cultivated his interest in history and in learning about different cultures by visiting museums, trying colourful cuisines, and through the numerous friendships he made. Quitoy was a man of many stories and loved to share the beauty of the world he saw. He was an active member of the Rotary Clubs of Davao and Halifax, where he dedicated much of his time to serving his community. Quitoy’s generosity extended to the many young people in his hometown whose education he supported through his scholarships.
For those of us that loved you Quitoy, you will always be remembered as a devoted son, a committed and loving husband, a father who was immensely proud and supportive of his sons and their partners, a kind and loyal friend, and for your strong faith in Christ.
The family would like to thank the Cancer Clinic QEII and the Palliative Care team of Halifax.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.JASnowFuneralHome.com for the Lorenzo family.
