Frances MacNeill, the loving wife of the late Robert Verge (Bob) MacNeill and mother of Robert Francis (Bob) and Joanne, passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary on Wednesday evening, January 13, 2016.
Born and raised in St. John’s NL, Fran was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Boland) Dunphy.
Fran graduated from the Presentation Convent in St. John’s and worked as Secretary to the late Senator Eric Cooke, QC. She met, fell in love with and married her “Canadian Soldier” Bob and after the war moved with her husband to Nova Scotia where he continued with his banking career. Fran became active in the various communities where they lived, and she was a past President of both the Fredericton and St John’s Kinette Club. She was a life member of the Mayflower Curling Club, a charter member of Saint Lawrence CWL and a faithful member of Saint Benedict Parish.
She and Bob were always welcoming and entertaining many friends and family in their home, sitting down to a good game of bridge, and spending time in her kitchen.
Fran was a devoted wife and mother and will be missed dearly by her son, Bob (Therese); daughter, Joanne (John) Kennedy; grandchildren, Heather, Rob (Michelle) Julie (Jon) Gourley, Jeffrey and Josh; special great grandchildren, Robert and Naleah. Also favourite nephew, Andrew (Christina) MacNeill and family.
Visitation to take place on Sunday, January 17 from 2-5 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Benedict Church at 10:30 am on Monday, January 18 with reception to follow. Fran will be cremated and placed beside her Bob in their niche at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Special thanks to Father Owen Connolly and Dr. Jacques Desrosier and the staff of floor 8.4 at the QEII Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Benedict Refugee Fund or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
