It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Everett S. Walsh on September 13, 2012. Born in Halifax on December 9, 1932 he was the only child of the late John Stuart Walsh and Lillian (McSweeney) Walsh. Everett was educated at College Street School, Saint Patrick’s Boys High School and later McGill University. He was a charter member of Canadian Martyrs Parish where he was active in the youth group at the formation of the parish. He was also a member of the church choir and later choir director for a period of three years. In his youth he was well known in the musical community of the city and was the last graduate in pianoforte from the Maritime Academy of Music before the amalgamation with the Halifax Conservatory where he studied under the direction of Jean Nickerson Crook, Natalie Littler and Harry Dean. Everett worked with Canada Packers in several maritime cities. In 1963 he relocated to Montreal where he joined the Rival Group of Companies based in Kansas City and later moved to the Toronto area where the company relocated its Canadian head office and he became a director and secretary-treasurer of the Canadian operation. Everett was a people person first, taking time to always keep in touch with his family and a multitude of friends in Nova Scotia and Ontario. He is survived by his aunts, Rita Roberts and Margaret Dunsworth, and many first cousins and their extended families. At Everett’s request there will be no visitation. The funeral Mass will be held in Canadian Martyrs Church, Halifax on Tuesday, September 18 at 9:30 a.m. In Everett’s memory donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A special thank you is extended to the supportive and compassionate staff of 8.1 at the QEII hospital, Halifax Infirmary site.
