Everett Arthur Smith (Ev) was born in Hampton, NB, November 6, 1930, to the late Stella (Dagnino) and William Smith. Ev was a graduate of the Hampton Consolidated School (1947), University of New Brunswick (BA, 1951), and Dalhousie Medical School (M.D., C.M. 1956). He served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC) and completed two years in Obstetrics and Gynaecology before deciding to make Psychiatry his chosen field, where he went on to obtain his specialist certificate (FRCP- C). Ev practiced in both public and private service for many years before retiring in 1991. In 1957 Ev married Anne Clarke, a nurse he had met while working at the St. John General Hospital. Their loving relationship continued for 65 years.
On Dec 29th, 2022 Ev died peacefully at the Caritas Residence in Halifax surrounded by family after a long and hard battle with cancer. Ev is survived by his wife Anne, daughters Sharon Smith (Dan Hutt), Dartmouth, Pamela Smith-Strong (Bob Cameron), Musquodoboit Harbour, and Beverley Smith, Hornby Island BC, and his five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters; Anita (Alan Hicks) Hampton NB, and Wanda (Donald Cameron) Quispamsis NB.
Ev requested no visitation or service. Donations may be made to Doctors without Borders, Amnesty International, or any other charities involving animals, nature, or preservation.
