It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ernie MacLellan at home surrounded by family on April 27, 2024. Born in Lincolnville, Nova Scotia Ernie was the son of the late Christina MacLellan.
After moving to Halifax, Ernie worked for 10 years at the Halifax Infirmary. He spent the last 38 years of his career at Halifax Transit (Metro Transit) where he was affectionately known as the GOAT having used no sick time.
During his off time, Ernie enjoyed hunting, fishing and being a jack of all trades. He spent much of his time at the ball field playing with, coaching and cheering on friends and family,
Ernie was an exceptional man who would do any thing for his family and community. Neighbours would stop to talk to him regularly on his daily walks to and from McDonalds, where he would discuss current events with his friends and fellow retirees. He made time to take care of a number of the neighbours as they aged, mowing their lawns, shovelling their driveways or taking them on errand runs. While taking on all of his projects he always made time for his family. He was an extraordinary role model and mentor to his children and grandchild, along with all the other children he interacted with throughout his life.
Ernie was predeceased by his grandparents Mary Agnus and James Desmond; uncle James (Jackie) Desmond; and sister Clara Lawrence. Ernie is survived by his wife Maxine (Reddick); sons, Craig and Curtis (Morgan); daughter, Lindsay (Justin); his pride and joy grandson Caleb (affectionately referred to as 'my boy'); siblings Douglas (Verna), Lucy, Delores (Paul), Linda, Robert (Debbie), Sheila (Mike), Keith (Sylvia), Janet (Sheldon), Bessie; aunt Sheila (Mike) and uncles; Wilbert (Janice), Clifford, and Raymond (Sarah).
Ernie lived his life with grace, humility and love, encouraging all to follow his lead. He will be missed and remembered by many.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of J. A. Snow Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 14 from 2-4 and 6-8pm in JA Snow Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 15 at 2pm in JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax with Pastor Anderson officiating.
