It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eric Lavers (80 years old) on December 12th, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary after a brief illness, non COVID related, his family was by his side. He was born to John (Delmore) and Kathleen (Fraser) Lavers in Halifax, Nova Scotia and remained in the Greater Halifax Area all his life. He earned his accounting designation through correspondence study while raising a young family.
He was an accomplished man with a very generous heart. His work career spanned 34 years with the Finance Department, Province of Nova Scotia with the last years up to retirement (1994) as the Provincial Tax Commissioner. In his private life, he was a Mason, active member of St John’s Loge #2 and the Royal Order of Scotland. A Christian man of faith, he was a member of the Anglican Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax. Throughout his life, he generously gave of his time and experience to friends, multiple businesses and causes dear to his heart. He was Treasurer for The Dartmouth Masonic Bingo Foundation where he worked for 22 years following retirement from the Province. He was a self-taught oil painting artist, focusing on land and seascapes. He had great interest in sports, US politics, cruising, bus tours, playing golf, a good game of cards and good single malt scotch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sandra Lavers (Herman). They were high-school sweethearts who retained their love and deep respect for each other throughout the course of their marriage. Laughter and caring came in abundance with him, in every situation, especially seen in summers at their cottage in Bramber, Nova Scotia, or at their recent winter destination in Myrtle Beach. He was someone you could always count on. He was a pillar in our family providing unconditional support, love and always a kind word. Family was his greatest joy. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and a wonderful role model for all of us to carry forward.
