It is with disbelief and great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Elizabeth Agnes Cameron. She left us unexpectedly at the QE2 Hospital in Halifax on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. She was born on May 28th, 1942 in New Glasgow, the second of five children to Helen (Irving) and William Cameron. She had an idyllic childhood on the beautiful ocean side 4th generation family farm in Egerton, and revelled in all that rural Nova Scotia life offered. She was a graduate of East Pictou High School, the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing and Dalhousie University (Public Health Nursing, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education).
Her primary work and passion throughout her life has been her connection to health care, including volunteer work at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital (as recently as 2 weeks ago) and the Parkland at the Gardens, and spanned employment in Fredericton, Ottawa, New Glasgow and Halifax. She had roles as an in-patient floor nurse, coordinator at Dalhousie School of Nursing, Nova Scotia Health Board member and also had dabbled in real estate and work with the federal government in Ottawa.
Her family and friends were her greatest joy and she cherished her time spent with everyone fortunate enough to fall within her sphere. She had a gentle personality, and viewed life with a positive outlook, no matter the challenge. She always sought to find the good side of any situation and was stoic and reserved in the face of crisis. She loved deeply and without condition, and provided steadfast forgiveness and patience (many times when we probably did not deserve it).
She walked every day, loved to read history and biographies and was an avid consumer of news and politics. She kept a beautiful and tidy home and enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking. As a longtime member of the Waegwoltic Club, she appreciated many years of tennis and sunning at the beautiful oasis in the city. She spent several winters in Florida with family and friends, allowing for beach time and the odd round of golf. We have so many favourite memories with her, in particular gatherings with extended family and ski trips to Sugarloaf and Quebec.
Her greatest source of pride were her adored three grandsons, and she spent many special times with them in Japan (in person and through FaceTime) and Halifax. By living close by to William, as he grew up, she relished her role as chauffeur and head cheerleader to his countless school, sports and music activities.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Rosemary Cameron and nephew Teddy Lambert.
She is survived by daughter Stephanie Nickerson (Mark), Halifax and son Michael White (Erika), Fukuoka, Japan and beloved grandsons William Nickerson, Toronto, Jun White and Koukie White, Fukuoka, Japan; sisters Margaret Cameron, Halifax, Lois Thompson (John), Woodstock, NB and Bona Cameron, Whitehorse. As well as her nieces and nephews: Daniel Huggard (Maura Doyle), New York, Natalie (Glenn) Karlsson, Sweden, David (Sarah) Cameron, New Glasgow, Christine (Andrew) Williams, New Glasgow, Christine Lambert (Ross McGee), Whitehorse and Nathan Lambert, (Amanda Pearson), Victoria, BC; and their wonderful children, her grand nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. Volker Eichhorn, Dr. Jason Williams and Amelia Pennington for the comfort they provided to our disconsolate family.
We invite you to remember our beautiful Elizabeth with us. Visitation: Sunday, August 11th at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax from 6-8pm. Funeral: Monday, August 12th at St Andrews Presbyterian Church "The Kirk", Mountain Road, New Glasgow at 1:00. Private family burial to be held at the Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow.
