Eleanor grew up in Halifax and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Hennessy. She graduated from Queen Elizabeth High. Eleanor was a loving caretaker to both her parents. Upon their passing Eleanor took over the management of the family properties both in Halifax and in West Chezzetcook Eleanor was the last remaining relative of Halifax Firefighter, Walter Hennessy. One of nine firefighters killed in the Halifax Explosion. She had the honour of laying the wreath at the 2017 100th Anniversary Memorial celebration to honour those that had fallen.
Eleanor was a country girl at heart and enjoyed spending as much time as possible at her home in West Chezzetcook on Porters Lake. Nothing she liked better than to snare rabbits for her famous rabbit pie, always a Christmas Eve tradition after midnight mass. Eleanor spent every summer from birth until recent years down at her Porters Lake home. Rabbit hunting, blueberry picking and fishing were favorite pastimes. Eleanor loved to travel and was bitten by the bug early in life. She travelled to Europe for the first time shortly after WW2 on an ocean liner headed for England. She enjoyed taking the train to Boston and New York (to shop!) and in later years flying to many countries across Europe. She particularly enjoyed traveling to Ireland to research her ancestors and see the family homeland Eleanor was predeceased by her 6 brothers and sisters. John and Harold Hennessy, Ethel Hennessy, Sister Mary Stanislaus (Dorothy Hennessy), Ruth Purcell, Marjorie Keddy and several Nieces and Nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St Agnes Church on Wednesday November 1st at 10 am followed by a private burial at Saint Anselm's Cemetery in West Chezzetcook.
