It is with deep regret and sadness of heart that we announce the passing away of our dear and wonderful sister and good friend, Elaine, at the age of 100 years and 7 months. She died on September 30, 2018 at Maplestone Enhanced Care in Halifax.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Sophie (Romo) Morris and John B. Morris. She was a long and faithful member of Saint Mary’s Basilica and the Catholic Women’s League. In the years when the Sisters of Service were involved with the immigrants at Pier 21, Elaine gave generous service to this organization. She also assisted Archbishop Hayes at his daily masses at the Halifax Infirmary.
Predeceased by her husband, Ross (Nick), her brothers Peter and John and her sisters Marie and Grace, Elaine is survived by sisters Anna Morris of Halifax, Lorraine Baldwin of Vancouver and her daughter Ann, along with special nephew Jon Walker and other nieces and nephews.
Elaine loved her garden, enjoyed nature and the outdoors, especially sitting in her beautiful back yard with her good friend Helen during the summer months. She was a very generous and kind lady who reached out to many people in need – everyone looked forward to her Christmas cooking, especially her famous “gibby” and banana bread. In her early years she and her sister Grace loved to shop at Mills Brothers. They knew style and fashion.
The family is grateful to the wonderful staff at Evans Hall, whose compassion and generosity to Elaine was exceptional. Special thanks to Stella for her caregiving and to Dr. Ernest Johnson and Dr. Jal Hossein for their outstanding support.
Memorial donations may be made to Hope Cottage or a charity of your choice.
